Wasco County is an area of 2396 square miles, with a total population of just 22,500, most of whom reside in The Dalles, on the Columbia River. It borders on the Columbia River to the North, the Cascades to the West, The Deschutes River, John Day River and Buck Hollow Creek to the East and extends South to the junction of Highways 197 and 97.

The area consists primarily of high desert country, with an average annual rainfall in the low "teens". With over 300 days of sunshine per year, several wild and scenic rivers and easy access to public lands, Wasco County is truly a recreation paradise!
